GEORGE'S C/MY 4 97 arrival cds. Some soiling but a remarkable Four Countries destination showpiece. Sir Cornelius Alfred Moloney KCMG (1848-1913) was a British colonial administrator. He served as British Administrator of The Gambia from 1884 to 1886, Governor of Lagos Colony from 1886 to 1890, Governor of British Honduras from 1891 to 1897, Governor of the Federal Colony of the Windward Islands from 1897 to 1900, and Governor of Trinidad and Tobago from November 1900 to 1904. It was during his term as governor of Trinidad and Tobago that the 1903 Water Riots took place. The riot resulted in the destruction of the Red House, the seat of government. £1400 |

Bradae (acute accent over e) DE 1 1901 with return address c/o Siam Canals & Irrigation Company, Bangkok to Pierre Faivre, Djibouti with boxed "R", Bangkok transit (top left), Singapore, Aden (DE 30 01), Sea Post oval appended "1789". The rate should have been 4att (postage) and 10att (registration) but someone took a great liking to the missing 10att for its splendid postmark, and there would have a greater incentive if the Thai stamp added LAOS or CAMBODIA (and later a substituted 1 att put in its a place). The clues of origin are the 8 rayed star within the fleuron on the 4att whose ink matches the town/village boxed key-shaped local registration handstamp - has anyone ever seen this EXACT FORMAT rare mark before? What a wonderful 4-countries item, and what a wonderful mystery to be solved. £2000 |
