Finding genuine used examples of this issue is extremely difficult (Cat.£18) whilst the later 1892 1/- red-orange (SG.58a, Cat.£24) can be found used Kingstown with not too much difficulty.

BAGAWANTALAWA, Ceylon on Smeets forged CAYMAN ISLANDS stamp:
1902 KE7 1/- orange CA wmk (SG.7, Cat.£120), a forgery in pale orange believed to have been cleverly executed by the Belgian forger Dr Julian Smeets by bleaching out the design of used copies of the 1886 Ceylon QV 5c dull purple (SG.195) to a give a "blank" CA wmk P.14 stamp; only immediately given away by the indelible ink portion of a BANGAWANTALAWA (Ceylon) cds dated SP 20 3 which could not be removed. Smeets work on Cayman Island issues rarely found.
