It has always been my expectation that a single strike of the "A10" on this QV 1d would be local use, and an over-lapped (second) strike would be from a multiple, but the commonest of this stamp cannot be from locally used survival, and the precision of the strikes on such a small area proves me wrong on two counts. £120 |

JU 14 1856 : The Spanish Postmaster in San Roque informed Edmund Cresswell Jr, the Postmaster in Gibraltar, that all future mail addressed to destinations within Spain would have to be prepaid by Spanish stamps (the 2d Gibraltar rate was more frequently paid in cash). This continued until 1875 when, on November 25, an agreement between Spain and Gibraltar was signed allowing prepayment of letters with stamps of the country of origin. £18 |
