1865 stampless cover "p. Corsica" to Miss Benjie Henderson, Newark, Delaware with red NASSAU/B/AP 10 65/PAID cds rated red "4" showing 5/APR 14 N. YORK BR. PKT cds (day Abraham Lincoln assassinated) and manuscript "Due 5 cts at Newark". Some soiling, no backstamps.
On AP 2 1865 victory of Grant over Lee concluded the Civil War, on AP 14 1865 Abraham Lincoln assassinated in Washington DC and died the following day. During the Civil War Delaware was a slave state which remained in the Union

1865 cover with rare printed sender's address of GOODRICH & HOUGH, PHOTOGRAPHERS, No. 1 BROAD STREET, Bridgetown, Barbados marked "via Colon" to McAdam, New York rated red "4" with (1d) deep blue, (4d) dull rose-red (SG.24,25) tied bootheel "1" with BARBADOS MR 11 65 despatch cds alongside, reverse ST. THOMAS MR 14 1865 transit dbl-arc. The (1d) stamp torn right through prior affixing, and cover slightly reduced at left.

ST. LUCIA postal history
1877 cover with 1/- deep orange (SG.18a) pmk'd black "A11" smudge with similarly poor ST. LUCIA JU 28 1877 despatch dbl-arc to Paris, France re-directed to Fontainebleau (in the inverted position) on reverse.
There is no indication that the adhesive belonged elsewhere, and the black smudge just extends onto the cover. Note the black vertical line in the cancel which matches the vertical crease below (and reverse) which strongly suggests there was an enclosure partly causing the poor strike.

The M2-Replacement cds for this office shows lettering further away from outer rim.

1868 worm-eaten edged cover open most of 3 sides b/stamped Kingston C/AU 10 68 to Richard Hill, Spanish Town showing TOO LATE (TL3, LRD) and Spanish Town A/AU 11 68 clear of address panel, flap with printed blue buckled DAT CURA COMMODUM (carefulness bestows profit). The absence of adhesive or manuscript postal charge being usual on official correspondence mailed within the island.

1871 cover with pairs USA 2c brown, 3c green pmk'd cork cancels with BROOKLYN MAR 21 despatch to wife of Alex Lindo, Attorney at Law, Kingston, handstruck black "4" applied St. Thomas changed to blue crayon "5" at Kingston, reverse ST. THOMAS A/MR 30 71 and KINGSTON C/AP 3 71 cds.
Carried by U.S. and Brazil Mail Steamship "North America" departing New York MR 23 71 and arriving St. Thomas MR 30 71. Transferred to R.M.S. Elbe departing St. Thomas AP 1 71 arriving Kingston shortly after midnight AP 3 71.

1868 stampless entire from Haiti headed "Jacmel 2 Novembre 1868" to Bordeaux showing both KINGSTON A/NO 8 68 and London NO 26 68 transit and 27 NOV arrival, env. shape GB/2F accountancy and handstruck "10" decimes due.

A UNIQUE COMBINATION, Bermuda postal history
The second earliest adhesive cover from St. Georges with short-lived K1 "1" plus STG cds combination: 1866 local cover front (peripheral faults) to Mrs Reginald Smith, Olive Bank, Warwick with 1st printing QV 1d rose-red CC wmk (SG.1) tied short-lived K1 "1" with STG cds (P5) dated 15 MR 66 alongside.
Only 9 covers are currently recorded with K1 plus STG cds combination: one with 1d, four with 6d, four with 1/- adhesives. The earliest 1d cover with B/1 and STG cds (P5) combination is dated JY 21 67.

(Type O) in blue ink indistinctly tying QV 2d Crown CC (SG.9) on OHMS Royal Arms stationery cover to Kingston dated B/JY 22 80. On arrival ADVERTISED, UNCLAIMED with RETURNED LETTER BRANCH 18 AU 80 handstamps.
Only one other blue ink numeral cover recorded - from Port Antonio with A64 dated JA 25 1878.

1881 cover with QV 4d dull rose Crown CA wmk P.14 (SG.36) tied "A05" to Wexford, Ireland, b/stamped A/BAHAMAS/MY 4 81 despatch cds and WEXFORD A/MY 22 81 arrival.
The U.P.U. QV 4d rate (using CC wmk P.14) to UK introduced JY 1 1880, and QV 4d CA wmk P.14 issued March 1882. Covers with the former scarce to England and particularly rare to Ireland during this 21 month period.

1879 mourning cover to New York with QV 4d dull rose CC wmk P.14 (SG.36) tied clear "A05" with very fine B/BAHAMAS/AP 23 79 despatch cds clear of missing flap, taxed on arrival with New York Due 3c opera-glass handstamp.
Unusually, for this period, the sender did not take the opportunity of prepaying the U.S.A. internal postage with a U.S. 3c adhesive available at the Nassau Post Office period JA 1 1879 to JY 1 1880 (date of UPU entry) and was taxed in lieu of.
