ST. VINCENT used GIBRALTAR postal history
1889 use of the St. Vincent QV 1d UPU Post Card ovp'd "GIBRALTAR" headed "Government House August 12 1889" to Munich, Germany with design pmk'd "A26" duplex dated B/AU 14 89.
Sterling issues ovp'd in CENTIMOS were introduced 1st August 1889. This duplex not listed in the Parmenter/Gordon handbook as handbook only covers cancellations used on GB stamps up to the end of 1885 when the use of GB stamps in Gibraltar officially ceased. The earliest strikes of this duplex are currently thought to be MY 6 1886 and MY 24 1886.

(M2-R, replacement cds with wording further away from outer rim) arrival dated (4)/JA 8 (87) both code and year not inserted (LRD) on QV ½d red-brown Post Card written "St. John's Jany 8th" and posted with Bridgetown open bootheel duplex dated A/JA 8 87 to His Honor, The Speaker, Greens, St. George.
Confirmation that this is the Parish code 4 cds comes with the damaged rim at 8 o'clock as found on earlier dates on loose adhesives. The current ERD for the M3 series cds is only 10 days later, JA 18 87. The earliest strikes JA 18 87 to OC 23 90 also show no code 4, at some point thereafter the code 4 was inserted.

Barrouallie is situated 14 miles west of Kingstown on the Leeward coast whilst Calliaqua is about 8 miles east of Kingstown at the bottom of the island on the near Windward coast.

Great Britain 1971 Postal strike: EMERGENCY MAIL SERVICE, Rhodesia postal history
1971 complete with text AIR LETTER to Oxford, England with 2½c, 5c affixed for postage and additional 50c fee pmk'd CAUSEWAY 25 FEB 71 with circular EMERGENCY AIR SERVICE d/ring alongside.
Writer mentions new service (inaugurated on or about the 20th February) for such airletters at a cost of 5/- or 50c cents local. Such letters were taken by private couriers. The UK postal workers strike was period January to March 1971.

"V" day, Meikles shop celebrates with "a dummy of Hitler in a real coffin", Rhodesia postal history
1945 use of 3d Victoria Falls ACTIVE SERVICE AIR LETTER headed "V" day!!! Tuesday 8th May pmk'd GWELO 8 MAY 45 to F/Lt E. Thompson, No.2. E.V.T. Instructors School, R.A.F. Middle East from his very worried and loving wife with salutation "My own adorable little Welsh Husband" with contents including "listening to London last night when we heard the news flash - it seems almost too good to be true" and "we shall listen to Mr. Churchill at 3, and again to the King at 9 o'clock". There is mention of "Gwelo looking "quite gay" with flags flying everywhere", and that Meikles Window for "V" day is lined with black crepe and they have "obtained a real "coffin" in which they have placed a dummy of Hitler". An exceptional end of war item for the KG6 collector; a Waterfalls thematic collector; and a sensational item for anyone exhibiting Postal Stationery.
VE Day stands for Victory in Europe Day which took place on Tuesday May 8, 1945, VE Day was the day on which the allied forces announced the surrender of Germany in Europe. It marked the end of Adolf Hitler's war and sparked celebrations around the world. The day before at 2.41pm on May 7, 1945 Germany had surrendered. This special Active service Letter Card was for use by servicemen, and civilian use was forbidden and any such usage resulted in surcharge.

1879 QV One Penny Farthing Foreign Post Card written by "John G. Dayn Jan 13th 1879 8pm" and pmk'd same night with YORK "930" duplex dated I/JA 13 79 with addresses and instructions for a bid to travel around the Globe in 100 days via Halifax, Nova Scotia, San Francisco, Honolulu, Hong Kong, Batavia, Java (with comment "out of the direct course"), and back to York showing Halifax JA 27 79, Hong Kong A/MR 19 79, Weltevreden 31 3 79 cds, some toning and closed base tear.
Two other similar items are noted for the period with Hong Kong MR 21 79 cds on Denmark post card with USA, Hong Kong, Hawaii adhesives, and Hong Kong MY 10 79 cds on German post card with Hong Kong, South Australia adhesives and via Uruguay address. Jules Verne published his novel "Around the World in 80 days" in 1873.
