MAURITIUS - a wonderfully difficult cover
Firstly this cover to the Rheinisches Luft Regiment was thought to be to Unter Offizier Hogeback in the experimental German Army balloon company (formed from 1884 to 1901); secondly did 4c equal the British 1d concession rate for sailors and soldiers for letters back to the UK - but surely that not apply to foreign destination regiments, lastly the seemingly B35 duplex dated MR 16 85 does not seem to conform with any Proud illustrations, forwarded by BLYTH BROTHERS & Co., Mauritius showing unidentified 7 AVRIL cds and SAARLOUIS 8 4 85 arrival.

This was once one of Britain’s leading confectionary manufacturer's. Set up by three men, Clarke, Nickolls & Coombs, the company later combined their names to create ‘Clarnico’. By 1899 the company employed 2,000 men and women, mainly from the local area, and made 700 different varieties of sweets. The location on the Lee Navigation allowed easy bulk deliveries of sugar carried by barge from London’s docks. Bought by Trebor in 1969 and later part of the Cadburys group.
