Manuscript "Middle Quarters", Jamaica postmark
NEWLY DISCOVERED manuscript "Middle Quarters" on QV 2d Crown CC (SG.9a) dated Kingston A/JY 29 76 used pending the arrival of the "A.82" numeral, currently unique.
The Middle Quarters office was opened during May 1876 and the A.82 (Type M) numeral stated to have been sent during 1876. The earliest confirmed date of use for A.82 is currently JU 30 1882 on QV 1d Post Card (ex Surtees)
£725

JAMAICA REGISTERED, Jamaica postmark

Obsolete JAMAICA "A01" transferred to G.P.O, LONDON FOREIGN SECTION, Transvaal postal history
1902 censored cover to The Hague, Holland with 2 x 1d E.R.I. overprints tied Johannesburg 18 APR 02 with further uncancelled KE7 ½d firmly "killed" by obsolete Jamaica "A01" numeral (Type E) transferred from Kingston to the G.P.O. London Foreign Section specifically for the duty of cancelling uncancelled adhesives. A wonderful combination cover.
£350

MAY PEN STATION, Jamaica railway postmark
(S2a, D1 in blue) dated FEB 7 1905 on 1d Falls (SG.32), large tear at left. Rare, few strikes known.
£120

BUSHY PARK STATION, Jamaica railway postmark
(S2b in blue, Proud unlisted) dated AUG 10 1903 on 1d Falls (SG.32), perf. defects at lower right.
Only one dated strike for JAN 20 1906 recorded by Topaz, Seifert, Cwiakala, a further strike dated FE 27 1905 confirms no side dot so Type S2b and not S2. The cancel seemingly so elusive that it is unlisted in the Proud handbook.
£325

JAMAICA USED AT BRITISH POST OFFICES ABROAD
The currently unique trio of “C51” (used St. Thomas) on QV 1d Pine wmk, the unrecorded on GB used abroad “D60” (whereabouts of use unknown, RPS certificate) on QV 6d Pine wmk, and “E88” (used Colon) on QV 2d CC wmk. Similar to the accepted use of Trinidad stamps at Ciudad Bolivar, it is now thought that Jamaica stamps may have had permitted or accepted use on correspondence back to the island – see Foster Page 31. (A red ink “D63” is also recorded on Jamaica QV 6d Pine wmk). The "D60" illustrated Parmenter & Gordon handbook Page 3 / 52
£4000

The Late Fee charge being 6d
£15

JAMAICA-PAID, Jamaica postmark
(PD14) in red dated 11 JA 1883 on stampless envelope piece.
Showing circular background to handstamp which would have clearly led to rounded corners of oblong with progressive use, Proud records FE 2 1889 to AP 7 1897
£14

JAMAICA(-PAID), Jamaica postmark
(10½mm high) assumed JAMAICA-PAID showing JA 24 on lower line (similarly to Proud PD14 recorded FE 8 1889 to AP 7 1897 but with square, rather than rounded, corners) together with KINGSTON, JAMAICA cds dated C/JA 24 76 on QV 1/- CC wmk (SG.13), horizontal bend and perf. faults.
The later PD14 stampless covers are struck in red and have similar red crayon amount alongside. A single cover to UK dated NO 9 61 has QV 1/- for postage and QV 6d for late fee. Therefore it is plausible that a similar cover to the JU 5 76 known cover to Belize franked QV 6d could have had 6d postage plus 6d late fee and been paid with QV 1/- stamp. The handstamp would have acted like a Crowned Circle to distinguish as such rather than the letter read as double 6d rate.
